The new iPad Mini 4 blows the last generation away in just about every way possible. There were so many apple fans out there last year that were very disappointed when they saw the iPad Mini 3 updated with only a new touch ID sensor. So needless to say it has been a long years wait for all of the goodness that they have packed here in the new iPad Mini.
The Mini is looking and more and more like it’s cousin the iPad Air. It’s just as thin as it is and weighs in at a staggering 0.65 pounds. That is amazing for a tablet like this. It’s also only 6.2mm thick. Apple says that it is 18% thinner than last years model.
It still uses the same retina display as before in a 9.7″ 2048 x 1536. It still uses the gapless technique for the third year in a row now. This is where they combine all the three layers into one. This would include the cover glass, touch sensor and LCD.
The new mini uses a anti-reflective display that reduces glare dramatically for those of you who want to use the table outdoors. It is said that this is the most anti-glare screen they have had on the mini line.
Displaymate has tested the new iPad and found that it has improved to 101% color gamut, which is huge. It was only at 62% on the last model.
You will all be glad to know the iPad Mini 4 has already been proven to have 2GB of RAM this time around. As most of you know the 1GB that it has always had could sometimes force safari pages to reload. This is one of the biggest reasons that most people feel like they should have put more RAM in last years model to. This year it was a must because of iOS9 and all of the features that come with it. One of those big features that will require more RAM is the split screen multi-tasking. This should make sure that experience is buttery smooth.
This Mini also has an 8-megapixel camera. It is similar to the ones in last years iPhone models. It includes advanced face detection, better noise reduction and faster focusing which are always good things. These are also going to shoot 1080p HD videos. It also supports burst mode, high resolution panoramas and 120 FPS slo-mos.
The battery is pretty much on par with all of the other tablets in apple’s lineup. You are suppose to get up to 10 hours when on wifi and up to 9 hours on LTE.
As you can see in the charts the iPad Air 2 still beats the new iPad Mini 4 by a shade on paper, but we don’t that will be the case in real world performance. We think they will both seem to be about on par with each other. The Mini uses a dual core chip that is an A8x variant that is clocked at 1.5GHz.
16GB – $399
64GB – $499
128GB – $599
As you can tell this years model is a huge updated compared to last years model and the year before that. So if you are one of the ones who were awfully disappointed with the poor upgrade then you just may want to go ahead and jump on this one. This one is without a doubt worth upgrading in our opinion. So did apple give you reason enough to upgrade? Let us know in the comments below.
